Frequently Asked Questions

Is my MIDI file uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read and parsed entirely in your browser. Playback, visualization, and metadata inspection all happen locally on your device.

Which MIDI formats are supported?

This tool supports common Standard MIDI Files in format 0 and format 1, including tempo and time signature changes, key signatures, sustain pedal (CC 64), pitch bend, program changes, and text or marker meta events. Unusual or malformed files may show an inline error instead of loading.

Can I mute individual tracks or channels?

Yes. Use the track and channel panels to hide notes from the piano roll or mute them from playback independently.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The layout keeps the file picker, transport controls, and the top of the piano roll visible on narrow screens so you can load and preview files on the go.

How realistic does the audio sound?

Playback uses lightweight Web Audio synthesis with General MIDI instrument presets, a standard drum kit on channel 10, and support for volume, expression, pan, pitch bend, and sustain pedal data from your file. It helps you hear timing, balance, and arrangement clearly, but it is not a soundfont or DAW-quality renderer.
